This is the Latest 18-02-2008 version of BGRIII. (released 18-02-2008)
Vanilla Kingdoms campaign installation instructions are here
If you have Stainless Steel 6.1 patch then you do not need to use this installer, just select BGRIII when installing the SS6.1 patch. That version has its own mini fix available, here or here and does not require the following fix.
You may still prefer to use the bgrIII installer rather than the ss6.1 one. This is a more flexible solution allowing you to install alongside other mods that would otherwise be incompatible.
For this option, first install ss6.1, but don't select bgrIII option and do select no supplies option. There is a specific installation instruction page here
Please note. fix update (11:44, 30-04-08 )
There is an error in the early and late campaign/custom scripts preventing the new scripts in SS6 (and probably some scripts if using bgrIII in other mods) from working under some circumstances. This problem did not prevent BGRIII from working though.
There is a temporary fix for all mod users, when using BGRIII with all mods.
To enable the new SS6 scripts you must do this. You can use either of the two fixes below.
The fixes require you to start a new campaign. This will be fixed in the next build.
The manual fix for using in all mods requires you to make a manual edit of campaign scripts.
Add ";" (a semi colon only) to the begining of the line: "while SettlementTurnEnd and SettlementIsLocal" and another ";" to the begining of "end_while" at the end of the bgr section of these scripts.
your mod name/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/campaign_script.txt
and here if your mod has this file (probably only Stainless steel):
your mod name/data/world/maps/campaign/custom/Late_Era_Campaign/custom_script.txt
or
Alternative easy fix for SS6.0 users only
You may instead use the script fix files in the download section below for ss6 users only. Just drop the unzipped data folder (ss6 script fix files) into SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6 folder if you have installed bgrIII.
This method also fixes a single missing space in a (minor) trait which disabled it.
What's new?
Corrects installation problem for users new to BGRIII (18-02-2008)
All known quirks fixed.
War Council Membership Ancillary can now be appointed to whoever you choose.
The King is in the War council by default (view this in his traits).
If a war council member becomes king he can assign his membership to another general, just transfer the ancillary to whoever you like. The King will still be in the War Council.
Many trait descriptions updated and improved.
New Installer
As usual the installer does not overwrite the contents of your files, it just squirts the additional scripts into the files you currently have.
The new installer now also installs the campaign and custom scripts automatically (you don't need to install the world folder separately any more)
BGRIII makes changes to the following file groups:
In the data folder: Traits, Ancillaries, Units.
In the data/world... folder: custom_script, campaign_script, strat (changes to the strat file are not critical)
Can now be adapted to any mod (contact for more information)
Stainless Steel 6 Installation.
1) Download the BGRIII_prepared_ss6_files.zip unzip and place the data folder from there into your stainless steel 6 folder. First back up the files it replaces.
2) Download the BGR-18022008.zip . This contains the BGRIII installer & a file made for SS5.1 which it uses. Discard the ss5.1 .bgr file in there. We will use the
bgr3ss6.zip instead.
Jump to step 3 below.
SS5.1 / Other mods Installation:
1a) Download and extract the new installer and the Stainless Steel specific .bgr file (also included) from the attached zipfile.
1b) For other mods please also click here and/or contact me or Nerazzurri for how to adapt BGRIII to your mod using this installer.
2a) If you already have BGRIII installed, run the BGRIII. exe, select your current install in the list and click uninstall. Put back your original world folder
(there is a copy in the data folder attached to this post for SSteel users).
Note, once you have this latest version you will not have to use the world folder for future version installation.
Jump to step 3.
2b) If you are using standard SSteel or any other mod or submod that contains older BGR or supplies.
Examples: Quarks Stainless Steel submod or Deus Lo Vult, you must remove the older bgr files from them before applying BGRIII or you will obviously get two versions of bgr, which wont work properly.
Stainless Steel5.1 users can use the original ss5.1b data folder attached to this post. They will put your copy of stainless steel back to default SS5.1b+hotfix1 with ALL Grim Reality effects removed. Just drop the data folder into your mods/stainless_steel folder.
Now reapply any other submods or fix packs you want if they share the same files as BGRIII.
Mind you don't put supplies/old bgr versions back in via a fix pack or submod!
New note for SS5.1 users. I believe echad's FIX Pack does put older bgr versions in so when using his fix pack use the old_bgr_traits_removal file from the downloads below.
Or if you install quarks traits from quark or via the fix pack then see below.
If you have or want quarks traits you can find a specially adapted data folder version on this forum.
Notes on installing anything after BGRIII and Quark's version data folder are here
3) Run the BGRIII installer if not already open and click "install new" then browse the location of the mod you wish to install into e.g. C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel or stainless steel 6 (or whatever your mod is called).
4) Set the morale modifier, ideally to 7 for longer, harder, realistic battles. 0 = no effects. Higher settings are harder.
5) Click the limited recruitment button then import the Stainless_Steel.bgr file which you also downloaded or for stainless steel 6 use the bgrss6 file. (This contains a file, which is editable via the installer, to set which units can be recruited by captains, generals and War Councillors).
Users of other mods can use the stainless steel .bgr file too, but it will only set units that are common to both SS and your mod. Therefore you must also look through the list of units. Any in bold text need editing yourself:
Set weak, peasant and militia units as captain
Set knights, heavy siege, firearms, other strong units as WC
Set average units as general
Any merceneary only units must be set as captain
export/save the file when you are done. You can reimport the .bgr saved file and tweak it further if you wish. (Tweaks require: uninstall, edit the file, reinstall, new campaign game).
If you are not sure of a category look through the list to see how other similar units are set. Or just set them as you prefer.
6) Click OK. Click Install. Start a new Campaign.
General Use BGRIII Installer Guide
Installation
Once you have the installar loaded click on the "Install New" button to install into a mod.
The install window will then open. The first thing to do is select the installation folder using the "Browse" button.
In the screen that opens select the root folder for the mod you are installing into as shown.
Once you have selected the installation folder you need to choose a value for the Morale Modifier. Ten is the recommended value for vanilla, however most mods will have changed the unit morale already so a lower value should probably be used (unless you really like a challenge). Select a value of zero for no change.
In here you need to choose which typesl of governor can recruit which units (for more information about this and for recommendations on settings please see the Concept section).
If a predefined settings file exists for the mod you are using you can load it using the "Load" button.
Additionally you can use an existing file for a basis and the installer wil use the settings for units from that file where there are matches. Any units which aren't in the preset file will be made bold and should be manually set.
You can save your settings at any time using the "Save" button. This allows you to retain the settings for future use. Should you create a settings file for a mod not currently supported please upload it to our forums for others to use.
Once you have set everything up click on the "Install" button and after a short wait the installation successful message will be displayed (if it isn't please see the Troubleshooting section).
Once you have finished installing the new installation will be added to the list of current installations.
